Lowden 025c

The O25C is Lowden's highly regarded jumbo. The cutaway is graceful, the wood bindings and purflings elegant and understated. His satin finish is beautifully executed, and refreshingly unique among high-end guitars so accustomed to shiny lacquer. Indeed, Lowden's aesthetic may be the most deceptively simple and understated in our shop. Sonically, these are unique guitars as well, and hard to categorize. Note-to-note separation is second-to-none, definition very crisp, tone still open and warm overall. The Cedar/Rosewood O25C you see here is darker in voice than the O32C, which sports a brighter, more shimmery character. Despite the softer cedar top, Lowden braces and thicknesses his tops strongly enough that the O25 still works astoundingly well as a big, open-tuned rhythm guitar. In fact, Lowdens are popular across the board, with songwriters, dropped-tune fingerstylists and Celtic accompanists, all of whom approach the instrument differently, and successfully. Paul Brady, Richard Thompson, Pierre Bensusan, Peter Mulvey, among scores of others, have played Lowdens over the years, getting their own signature sounds from these very endearing instruments.
